Summer is upon us and keeping the kids busy is paramount on every parent’s list. Whether you are trying to keep up with ongoing educational goals or looking for some silly fun, whether you live in Seattle or are planning a vacation here, there is plenty to keep all members of the family interested and active all summer long.
The best way to get a birds-eye view of Seattle is to view it from above. These three hot spots give you just that opportunity:
Seattle Center Monorail: Hop on this beloved Seattle landmark downtown and head for Seattle Center for a plethora of family activities. Trains leave every ten minutes.
Seattle Space Needle: Standing 605 feet tall, the Seattle Space Needle provides breathtaking views, and 360-degree, views of the city of Seattle. Glass walls and floors give visitors a grand sense of the city below them.
Seattle Great Wheel: Standing 175 feet tall, the Seattle Great Wheel offers a panoramic view of the city and pier. Each ride lasts from 12-20 minutes, with three full turns on the wheel. Guests can book the special VIP gondolas featuring a glass bottom. Summer evenings include a light show.
After your aerial adventures, plant your feet firmly on the ground and check out some educational and edifying attractions:
Burke Museum of Natural History: Located on the University of Washington Campus, the Burke Museum gives your budding paleontologist an opportunity to get up close and personal with flora, fauna, fossils, and more.
Museum of Flight: Featuring all things aviation – from Wilbur Wright’s logbooks to a retired Air Force One. Your young aviator will be enthralled with the various planes on display. Raising an astronaut, there’s plenty to explore without having to leave planet Earth.
Seattle Aquarium: Dive into the wonder of our ocean-based creatures! From sea horses, sea otters and cephalopods are all on display for kids of all ages. Exhibits include Marine Animals, Life on the Edge, and a family activity center.
For a more traditional experience check out some Seattle amusement parks:
Wings over Washington: Billed as a “flying ride”, Wings over Washington promises to fly you over the state of Washington, flying you to Mt. Rainier and Olympic National Forest, from Snoqualmie Falls to the Tieton River. Experience all Washington has to offer without leaving Seattle.
Summer is the time of family and fun, vacation and adventure, and Seattle offers plenty of activities to keep you and yours busy until Labor day rolls around.
